Garfield Minus Garfield

"Who would have guessed that when you remove Garfield from the Garfield comic strips, the result is an even better comic about schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and the empty desperation of modern life? Friends, meet Jon Arbuckle. Let's laugh and learn with him on a journey deep into the tortured mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against loneliness in a quiet American suburb."

It's amazing what art comes out just by adding in or leaving something out. This is at times really funny and super depressing! enjoy.

Silent Auction!

The LTS Art Guild is holding a Silent Auction to benefit the Race Against Racism. Art for Silent Auction goes up 4-21 and runs until 4-24. They will be up on the Second Floor of Mayer Commons here at the seminary. There will be a black binder which bid sheets on each art work which you can fill out. Winners will be notified on 4-30-08

All prints will start at $25 and half the proceeds will go to the Race Against Racism and the other half to the artist. If we reach $1,000 in donations to the RAR, rachel miller and Luke Lindon will shave their heads.

If we reach $1,500, Greg Carey will have to kiss a pig. that's right, a REAL, LIVE pig!

So donate lots and donate often and TELL YOUR FRIENDS!

Here's a small preview of works to bid on!

HOW TO BID
Mayer Commons is open from 9 to 5 during the week. We will have a black binder with bid sheets up on the second floor with all the art pieces up for auction. Fill out the bid sheet for the selected item and you're done! Winners will be announced and contacted on 4-30-08. Best of luck!

Tent Schematics

here is the blueprint that we decided on. this is by no means the final version and the WHOLE reason i'm posting this on here at all is for discussion. so please, please please!!!!! make a comment or six on this. please. pretty please? (i'm desparate!)

here's the illogic behind the design:

MEANING: Looking at artwork from Sudan inspired the design. The landscape is designed to be recognizable and in the keeping of Sudanese context and beauty standards. Both familiar and peaceful. The community scene is to represent an ecumenical community. This side presents the fact that the global community cares.

GOAL: Community involvement and ownership of the tent.

METHOD: Hand prints to color the tree on the left panel of the tent plus a free area above the sitting figures on the right. There will also be a paint by numbers scheme set up for the rest of the savannah scene and the community scene.

The next step is schedule'n a sketch party to get this theme up and running. I'm thinking next Wednesday or Thursday evening.

Reimagination

Behold a truly imaginative student project: The Star Wars opening title sequence re imagined as a project by Saul Bass, the iconic designer whose work redefined the title sequence in modern filmmaking.

Tents of Hope

We have been asked to help design the Tents of Hope! Yay! On 2-27 we'll have a Design Pow-Wow in the refectory at noon. The idea is to sketch on our design and have the seminary community to add the color. Just think of a paint by numbers only on a giant tent that's going over seas. Goal is to have it painted by April 1st for the commemoration on April 24th.

Here's the deal... we're a LOOSE confederation that is an egalitarian democracy. you're not obligated to do anything, but just politely asked if you're interested. I'm just an organizer... that's it. but i think this would be a good time to hang out and give the guild more of a community feel. and we're NOT affiliated with the seminary.

thanks!

The Manifesto

The music that really turns me on is either running toward God or away from God. Both recognize the pivot, that God is at the center of the jaunt.::: Bono :::

In the spirit of the TH320, Christianity and the Visual Arts we seek to continue to use art as a medium to communicate the transcendent. We seek to awaken the mummified visual circuitry of the Protestant Tradition. Here is how we'll seek to do it:

Each month a theme will be given out and the members of this guild will compose an art work based on this theme. This artwork can be done in any medium and style. At the end of each month the art shall be posted here and discussed.
